How does Clever Single-Sign-On (SSO) work?
Single-sign-on allows your students to only have to remember one login, for Clever (or Google if you have set up Google login in Clever). Once they have logged into Clever, the student can click on any app that is available to them on their Dashboard and it will redirect them to that app’s page and log them in automatically.
How does Clever Rostering work?
Rostering works the same as SSO, except if a student logs into an app and there is no matching User for that student in the program (based on email address), that User is automatically created in the program and then logged in. This means your teachers or admins don’t have to worry about adding new students or removing old students from the application, only on the Clever platform.
My students don’t have an email address. Can we still use Clever?
Unfortunately, no. In order for Clever to work with Type to Learn there needs to be a unique identifier, which is an email address.
Does it cost anything to use Clever?
Nope! Using Clever is completely free for school districts. It will take a little bit of time to set up the account properly, but the Clever support staff will help you with that.
How long does it take for our application request to be approved?
If you’re a new customer or already using Clever for SSO, then your request for Type to Learn will be approved within one business day, usually within a few hours. If you’re an existing Type to Learn customer that is starting up with Clever, we will first need to confirm all your Users have an email address. If so, we can approve your request right away. If not, we will help you get your email address into your account before we can approve the request.

How do I add students into our Clever account?
There are a few ways you can add students into Clever: Using a sync process with your SIS system, manually uploading a CSV file or manually adding them one-by-one. We do not have all the details on how to do this, but the Clever support portal has great resources to help.
If I’m already using Type to Learn, can I start using Clever rostering?
Yes, but it’s very important that you first add your student’s email addresses to Type to Learn before you connect with Clever and start using it for rostering.
Can I use Clever for single-sign-on only and not rostering?
No. Now that Type to Learn is integrated with rostering there is not an option to use one or the other. If a student logs in from Clever that is not currently in Type to Learn, that User will automatically be created in Type to Learn.
If we start using Clever, can I still log in at www.typetolearn.com?
No, they cannot. Once you start using Clever for SSO or Rostering, that will be the only method in which you can log in. This is done for security reasons, allowing district admins to manage access to applications through Clever only. If you choose to stop using Clever, we can update your account with new usernames and passwords to work at www.typetolearn.com again.
