Some school networks use proxy servers, which cache and filter Internet traffic. Some proxies require authentication and will modify their filtering policy depending on the credentials used. Android OS is, currently, not capable of processing proxy pacs. If the proxy settings are available, they may be entered manually or by QrKey. To enter proxy settings by QrKey, please click here. Otherwise, the instructions for manual setup are available below:
BASIC PROXY SETUP
Proxy settings are associated with individual Wi-Fi networks; start by following the Connect to Wi-Fi guide, but before pressing Connect, you should tick the Show advanced options checkbox. You may need to scroll the popup upwards to see the option:
If a previous connection has already been made, press and hold the connected access point and press Modify network, then check the Show advanced options checkbox.
Note that the tickbox and the options it reveals may be hidden below the on-screen keyboard. Scroll down the dialog or temporarily hide the on-screen keyboard to see the options.
Set Proxy settings to Manual to reveal the proxy fields. Add the fields as directed by local IT administrator.
AUTHENTICATED PROXY SETUP
Authentication is an additional layer of security that can applied to a proxy. It applies only to HTTP traffic (which is used for web pages).
To enter authentication credentials:
- unlock the tablet and go to Settings, then click on Wifi.
- Tap on the network you want to connect to.
- Select "Advanced Options"
- When "Proxy" appears below, tap on it and select "Manual"
- now enter the credentials and settings for your proxy connection.
